So last night, my boyfriend, he tells me like he doesn't know who Jack Kerouac is and I don't know why we're talking about Jack Kerouac to be honest like I don't remember why he was brought up but Oh yeah, I was making fun of myself right I was making fun of myself and saying that what I'm doing as a writer is very like Kerouac-esque because it's very up its own ass and Basically, like my boyfriend was like he did not know who Jack is and I kind of flipped out because like I don't know how you don't know who Jack Kerouac is like because it's literally Jack Kerouac like I don't know like I was like you would've you would know him because you would've read his book in school and he was like I didn't read that. I said you never read on the road and he said no I read the road and I said I read that too and he was like you're thinking of he said you're thinking of Cormac McCarthy. I said I am not thinking of Cormac McCarthy like that's a different freaking guy and I was like, but they both wrote about a road but they're not the same guy and I was like, but they're both like they both are mid as fuck like I don't know if I get in trouble. I don't know if I'll get in trouble for saying that Cormac McCarthy's mid or Jack McCarthy or Jack that Jack Kerouac is mid, but I I don't resonate with the work TBH it's not very like inviting to women and the thing is like the thing is like I yeah I mean, I fully get McCarthy like I find his whole like minimalist like desolate like sort of just empty writing style to be like extremely boring and like I get it like that's like the point but like it's like I don't care like I don't like it and Also care I just yeah, just like up its own ass like I just don't like care I don't care OK anyways so the thing is I'm probably explaining my boyfriend who's telling me that that nobody knows this guy he's like no one knows this guy – he's drunk by the way – And like he's like no one knows who that you're talking about and I was like Alan Ginsburg you know him? and my boyfriend's like yeah everyone knows everyone knows Alan Ginsburg. Nobody knows Jack Kerouac I was like yo everybody knows Jack Kerouac Jack is more famous and and then he's like no he's not cause I do not know this man and I'm like you should know him like I don't even know what to just like to tell you and I was like you know like in Bojack Horseman like So yeah, Bojack's dad is he's a parody of like that beat Nick stereotype of like a guy that's like "I'm gonna write my great American novel and like be up there with like squirrel and Getty and all that!" That whole freaking bit is literally just like a like parody of like that era and also like that type of man that's like you know obviously misogynistic because like the beat Nick's really super misogynistic And they treat women horribly and used women as like I don't know Texture and atmosphere like props and they're like writing and whatever I'm saying all this my boyfriend he's just like yeah like I never read that like I I took AP Lang Or no no no he says I took AP lit. I said you would've read you would've read Kerouac in AP lit but you know obviously it's like it's all like anyone can read anything like I guess he said, and then we read Kate Chopin and I was like yeah, but you would've read Kate Chopin I read Kate Chopin in 10th grade like I was like I remember everything like I remember the entire curriculum like beginning to end and I was like I don't even remember like I don't even remember like what happened in any of these books like I barely read them, especially towards the end like I was getting like extremely like checked out but I do remember like from what I did read like I remember how it made me feel and I remember feeling like this shit is bullshit. This shit sucks dick and balls and I mean I was like I told him like I don't need to know a lot about anything because I have the most strong opinions about everything.
